Our Story
Hey there! I'm Kortney, the owner/operator of The Flourish Flat.
I’ve been around small business for much of my life, my grandpa owned a brick and mortar aquarium store, my dad had his own auto-body shop out of our garage, my sister started a photography business, and my husband built a landscaping business from one his uncle started. To be honest, if I had more that 24 hrs in a day, I’d start another small business tomorrow (and maybe this year we will) Entrepreneurship and growth excite me more than most things in life but I know my strength, and I know that dying to self is sometimes the best way to grow.
We see potential everywhere we go, and when a vacant old print shop finally landed in our laps for us to purchase, we jumped at the chance to make it boom again! What started as a vintage camper traveling plant shop idea turned into a brick-and-mortar houseplant shop and party venue right in the town where we’ve grown our roots!
When it comes to growing plants...
I like my plants, like I like my about-to-be 12 year old daughter…independent. In other words, I hate moss poles (although I throughly understand how important they are). I only prop in water and I like to see my plants face to face…not through a glass cabinet. Don’t come at me…maybe having 4 kids just forces me to keep things simple.
The Flourish Flat is a brick-and-mortar houseplant shop in the front and a party venue space in the back! When we renovated, we gave The Flat a simple white backdrop so the plants (and parties) could do their thing!
The space is a blank slate, which works with everyone’s themes and personal touches. When it comes to plants, interior design is key. We stay on top of the latest trends in home decor (and plants, yes, plants trend), so when you leave with our plants, pots, or home decor items, you’re leaving with something that will function and look great in your home.
A few of my favorite things...
I love my husband, Mike and my 4 blessings more than I love the rest of this list. Jeeps, football, food, sunshine and summer are at the top of my love list. Ahhh sunshine and summer…remind me again why I’m still living in Ohio because there surely isn’t enough sunshine and summer here. Oh yes, Ohio, where you’ll find my precious family. It doesn’t take me to long remember, that’s why I’m here. The hummus to my carrots, the butter for my crusty French bread…my family is what makes life delicious!
Truly, madly, deeply, I’m so glad you’re here, following me and this dream of mine. I deserve no credit but rather give all the glory to the #1 of my love list, Jesus.
Thanks for stopping by!
